Following its preview in Malaysia last month, Jaecoo Malaysia has now announced the official pricing information for the J7, which will retail from RM138,800 on-the-road, without insurance. The range-topping variant will cost you RM148,800.
Size-wise, the Jaecoo J7 measures 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, and is underpinned by a 2,672 mm long wheelbase. This makes it just about as big as the Honda CR-V, albeit slightly shorter in length. It is also just a hair shorter than the Proton X70 in terms of length and height but is slightly wider.
On the outside, the Jaecoo J7 sports a boxy design, giving it a premium yet tough look. The Malaysian-spec J7 also comes with exterior kits such as LED headlights, LED rearlights that sort of resemble the Ford Everest, welcome lights, and a set of 19-inch wheels. The J7 also has electric flush door handles.
Powering both 2WD and AWD variants the Jaecoo J7 in Malaysia is a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This results in a total of 197 hp (metric) and 290 Nm being sent to all four wheels via the brand’s all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The AWD J7 does the century sprint in 9.9 seconds while the 2WD J7 does it in 9.3 seconds. The AWD variant will be getting 7 driving modes which are Eco, Normal, Sports, Sand, Mud, Snowfield, and Off-road (compared to 2WD 3 modes which are Eco, Normal, and Sport).
Moving inside, the Jaecoo J7 in Malaysia gets equipment such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.8-inch infotainment head unit that supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, and a 6-way electric adjustable driver seat that comes with memory, ventilation, heating, and welcome functions.
Other interior kits such as a heated steering wheel, a center armrest box with a chiller, an 8-speaker sound system, and a panoramic sunroof are also included. Separating the AWD variant from its 2WD counterpart is the larger 14.8-inch touchscreen head unit (compared to the 2WD’s 13.2-inch head unit) and rear privacy glass.
On the safety front, the Jaecoo J7 in Malaysia is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Intelligent Active Speed Limiting, Integrated Cruise Assistance, Speed Assistance, and rear collision warning.
The Jaecoo J7 comes with a 7-year/150,000 km mileage manufacturer warranty. Early bird customers, will be getting a 10-year/1,000,000 km mileage warranty. The first 300 customers will be getting a free upgrade of a 14.8-inch infotainment head unit that supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto (compared to the 2WD’s 13.2-inch head unit).
